Astrid Lindgren's childhood home
Astrid Lindgren grew up on the farm “Näs” in Vimmerby, Småland. Just a stone’s throw from Näs is where Astrid Lindgren’s World is situated. The environment in which Astrid grew up is reflected in many of her books.
A new cultural centre at Näs opened in the summer of 2007, it consists of the newly built Pavilion, the Vicarage, “Boa på Näs” and Astrid Lindgren’s unique childhood home, which is the same as it was during her childhood.
For the first time this unique building is open to visitors.
The pavilion boasts a café, museum shop, the contemporary exhibition “Everybody’s Astrid Lindgren” which depicts her life and accomplishments.
The Vicarage boasts temporary exhibitions on Astrid Lindgren,
Pippi Longstocking’s soda-pop tree and the new memorial sculpture “Source Astrid”. The arts and crafts cottage is situated a few meters from the sculpture and is run by Astrid’s relatives. In this cottage, Astrid Lindgren books with unique, deluxe etiquettes and name stamps are sold as well as many other things.
Astrid Lindgren’s Näs is open to visitors throughout the year.
